Doors to Dignity

Our Seed Funding Campaign! Helping SWITCH from a Passive Charity Program Model to One of ACTIVE Empowerment

Thank you to Bridgehead Productions for their support in producing this video.

Barrie Families Unite (BFU), a grassroots not-for-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap for families in need, is thrilled to announce the launch of its “Doors to Dignity” Seed Funding Campaign. With a goal of raising $500,000, the campaign will support the opening of a social enterprise thrift store designed to provide dignified access to essentials for economically vulnerable individuals and families in the City of Barrie. The thrift store will serve as a cornerstone of the community, offering low-cost or no-cost essentials while acting as a hub for connection, skill-building, and sustainability. Under the “Doors to Dignity” initiative, clients referred by local agencies will be empowered to shop for items that meet their needs, fostering dignity, choice, and independence. Together, we can open the “Doors to Dignity” and build a brighter future for Barrie. Join us in making this vision a reality!

NEEDS ON THE RISE

Current statistics from BFU and Simcoe County reveal a significant surge in households requiring essential needs support over the past three years, underscoring the urgent need for expanded services.

DIGNIFIED ACCESS

Adapting to a model focused on self-selection of clothing and household items allows individuals to choose what suits their needs and preferences best. This approach fosters increased self-esteem and self-worth, giving clients a sense of dignity in times of need.

SUSTAINABLE PROGRAMMING

Charitable organizations often face funding challenges. By establishing a thriving social enterprise, BFU will secure long-term financial stability, ensuring the sustainability of its programs and services for years to come.

COMMUNITY CARING FOR COMMUNITY

INTEGRATION

A sense of belonging is vital for positive mental health. The BFU thrift store model aims to bring together all demographics of our community through inclusive shopping experiences and engaging community events, fostering unity and connection.

SKILL BUILDING

BFU’s thrift store will offer diverse opportunities for individuals in our community to develop valuable skill sets through both volunteer and paid roles, fostering growth and empowerment.
